The order for the so-called “leg encircling crane”, which hasa record-setting radius of 32 metres, came from South Korea’s Samsung HeavyIndustries, which is building the self-propelled jack-up unit at its Geojeyard.
Huisman is constructing the giant crane along with a pair of50-tonne auxiliary cranes at its facility in Xiamen, China, for delivery inmid-2015.
The main crane will be installed on top of the starboard-aftjack house on one of the 105-metre-long legs of the jack-up, with the110-metre-long parallel crane boom stored on top the starboard-forward jackhouse, creating deck space of more than 5000 square metres for towers, nacelles and blades.
