Dow, which is based in Michigan, and is the world’s second-largest chemical company by revenue after Germany’s BASF, saw its share price zoom 5.3% on the announcement. The company plans a test run for the shingles in 2010, before a full commercial roll-out in North America in 2011.
Dow predicts that sales of its “Powerhouse Solar Shingle” will hit $5bn by 2015, and $11bn by 2020, as the US market for BIPV products widens.
