The company’s 100kW Ceto 3 device, a submerged float-and-tether technology that uses seabed pumps to produce energy from passing waves, is now producing electricity from its site in 25 metres of water in the Sepia Depression Garden Island, off Western Australia.

It becomes the only commercial-scale wave power device operating in the Southern Hemisphere.

Data-gathering via the Ceto installation’s sensors will now be carried out during 12-month power optimisation and performance trials, with a view to setting up a 2MW project using between 10 and 15 units.
