Marques’ company, Bioenergy, made the sale to Cemig, a Brazilian electricity company, at a rate of about R$150 ($88) per MWh, days before the first federal wind tender was held. Prices before that had been around R$300/MWh, and the tender ceiling rate was R$189/MWh.
At the time, Marques seemed to be taking a big risk offering such a low price. But the tender ended up with an average rate of R$148/MWh, and wind-power prices have since dropped to about R$100/MWh.
