Industry unveils 2030 Vision plan for UK offshore wind
Ambitious plan outlines potential for 27,000 skilled jobs, £48bn investment in infrastructure and exports climbing to £2.6bn a year by 2030
The UK offshore wind industry has unrolled its blueprint for a “transformative” sector deal with government that would put the fast-emerging sector at the heart of Britain’s energy transition, with ambitions to create 27,000 skilled jobs, cut total electricity system costs by a £2.4bn ($3.66bn) per year, invest £48bn in infrastructure and boost exports fivefold to £2.6bn annually by 2030.
The 2030 Vision plan, announced by sector body Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC), would lead to offshore wind generating one third of the UK’s electricity by the end of the next decade, with the industry more than doubling its capacity from 13GW today to 30GW.
